'Heritage' is what we inherit from the past, live within the present and then pass on to our children or future generation. Our unique source of life and inspiration is our cultural and natural heritage. When we speak of 'World Heritage', it indicates places and sites that we inherited from the past and pass on to the future generation of the entire world.
'The Shat Gambuj Mosque' in Bagerhat is such a heritage. It became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985.
Originally, the historic Mosque city was known as 'Khalifatabad'. It is situated at the outskirts of Bagerhat town—not very far from the dense Mangrove forest of the Sundarbans. Khalifatabad was a Muslim colony. It was founded by the Turkish general, a saint warrior Ulugh Khan Jahan in the 15th century. The infrastructure of the city reveals significant technical skills in many Mosques as well as early Islamic monuments. Baked bricks were used for the construction of the buildings. The planning of the city was dominated by the tradition of Islamic architecture and the decorations were a combination of Mughal and Turkish architecture. Khan Jahan built a network of roads, bridges, public buildings and reservoirs to make the city habitable. There were about 360 mosques in the city. Among them the most remarkable is the multi-domed Shat Gombuj Mosque. The mosque is unique in the sense that it has 60 pillars that support the roof, with 77 low height domes. The 4 towers at 4 comers have smaller domes at the top as well. The vast prayer hall has 11 arched doorways on the east and 7 each on the North and South for light and ventilation. It has 7 aisles running along the length of the Mosque and 11 deep curves between the slender stone columns. These columns support the curving arches created by the domes. The thickness of the arches is 6 feet and have slightly narrowing hollow and round wall.
The west wall in the interior has 11 'Mihrabs' (niche in mosque pointing towards Makkah). These mihrabs are decorated with stone work and terracotta. The floor of the Mosque is made of brick. Besides being used as a prayer hall, Khan Jahan used the Mosque as his court too. Today, it is one of the greatest tourist attractions and one of the best architectural beauties of Bangladesh.

(e) What is the impact of the day on the poor and the rich?
A Rainy Day
A rainy day is one of the most refreshing and enjoyable days in the year. The sky is covered with dark clouds, and the air becomes cool and fresh. Rainwater falls in drops, sometimes gently and sometimes heavily, making the environment lively and soothing. On such a day, people often like to stay at home and enjoy the peaceful sound of rain. Some people go out with umbrellas and raincoats to walk in the rain or visit markets and shops. Others enjoy sipping tea or coffee while watching the raindrops fall outside. Animals and birds also have their ways of passing a rainy day. Dogs and cats take shelter under trees or in their homes, while birds find safe places on rooftops or in bushes to protect themselves from getting wet. Children, however, find rainy days full of fun. They play in puddles, run in the rain, fly kites, and enjoy splashing water everywhere. A rainy day has a different impact on people depending on their social condition. For the rich, it is usually a day of relaxation, fun, and enjoyment. They can afford comfortable clothes, umbrellas, and warm drinks, and often see the rain as a blessing. But for the poor, it may create difficulties. Floods or muddy streets can make their work and travel harder, and they often get wet or sick due to the rain. Despite this, a rainy day brings beauty to nature, makes the trees greener, fills rivers and ponds with water, and gives everyone a chance to feel closer to nature. Overall, a rainy day is a mixture of enjoyment, reflection, and life for all creatures.

Kindness Brings Happiness
One day, Sara was going to school with her younger brother, Juhayer. On their way, they saw a woman sitting on the road, with a baby in her lap and crying loudly. The woman looked worried and tired. Sara asked her, “Aunty, what happened? Why is your baby crying?” The woman said that she had lost her way and did not know how to get home. She had no food or water for her baby. Juhayer immediately offered the little snack he had in his bag to the baby. Sara also gave the woman some water from her bottle. Then Sara asked some passersby to help find the woman’s house. They all went together, and finally, they reached her home safely. The woman thanked Sara and Juhayer with tears in her eyes. She said, “You have shown great kindness today. May Allah bless you.” Sara and Juhayer felt very happy because they had helped someone in need. They realized that helping others brings true happiness and satisfaction. From that day, they decided always to be kind and helpful to everyone.
Dear Anisha,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to tell you about the co-curricular activities of our school, which are really interesting and enjoyable. Our school organizes a variety of activities such as debates, drama, drawing, music, and sports competitions. These activities not only give us pleasure but also help develop our creativity and skills.
I personally take part in the debate club and the drama team. Participating in debates has improved my confidence and speaking ability. The drama performances are really fun and allow us to express our ideas creatively. Besides that, our school has a sports team where students play football, cricket, and badminton. These activities help us stay active and healthy.
Our teachers also encourage us to take part in science fairs, art exhibitions, and cultural programs. They guide us properly and motivate us to give our best. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a school where learning goes beyond the classroom.
I hope you are also enjoying your school activities. I would love to hear about them. Please write to me soon.

A dialogue between me and my friend about the importance of reading story books.
Sami: Hi Rumi! You look a little bored today. What are you doing?
Rumi: Hi Sami! I am just sitting here. Honestly, I don’t feel like reading anything. I never enjoy story books.
Sami: Really? But story books are not only fun, they are very important too.
Rumi: I don’t see how. I think they are just a waste of time.
Sami: Not at all! Reading story books can improve your imagination and creativity. When you read stories, you imagine the characters, the places, and the events in your mind. This develops your thinking and helps you become more creative.
Rumi: Hmm… I never thought about it that way.
Sami: Also, story books improve your language skills. You learn new words, sentence structures, and ways to express your thoughts clearly. It also helps you in writing essays and letters for school.
Rumi: That sounds useful. But I feel I don’t have enough time to read.
Sami: Even a few pages a day are enough. Story books also teach moral lessons. You learn about honesty, kindness, courage, and friendship through the experiences of the characters.
Rumi: Really? I didn’t realize that stories could teach lessons.
Sami: Yes! Moreover, reading stories reduces stress. It relaxes your mind and helps you enjoy your free time in a meaningful way. People who read regularly often become more confident and thoughtful.
Rumi: I guess I should try at least one book. Do you have any recommendation?
Sami: Sure! Start with short stories by Rabindranath Tagore or Enid Blyton. Once you begin, you will enjoy it and want to read more.
Rumi: Okay, I will give it a try. Thanks, Sami!
Sami: You’re welcome, Rumi! I am sure you will love the experience of reading.
