Morality is the invisible set of rules that helps human beings live together in peace and mutual respect. It teaches us the difference between right and wrong, honesty and deceit, kindness and cruelty. When people stop valuing these principles, a society begins to experience moral degradation. In simple words, moral degradation is the steady loss of good character, honesty, and empathy in our daily lives. For a growing country like Bangladesh, where young people make up a major part of the population, losing our moral compass is a serious challenge that affects our families, educational institutions, and public offices.
Morality has always been seen as the foundation of human society. The Greek philosopher Socrates believed that true knowledge must always lead to virtue. He explained that a person who is clever but lacks good character can end up causing great harm to others. Later, the German thinker Immanuel Kant suggested that before we do anything, we should ask ourselves a simple question: what would happen if everyone in the world did the same thing?
