Bangladesh is a country of rich historical, cultural and natural heritage, and some of its most valuable treasures have received international recognition as World Heritage Sites. According to UNESCO, Bangladesh currently has three properties inscribed on the World Heritage List, including two cultural sites and one natural site. These are the Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat, the Ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur, and the Sundarbans. The Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat, situated in the southwestern part of the country, is an important example of medieval Muslim architecture. The city was founded in the fifteenth century by Khan Jahan Ali and contains remarkable structures such as the Sixty Dome Mosque, which reflects the architectural skill and religious traditions of that period.
